Malvasia Nera 'Talo' 2020, San Marzano, Puglia, Italy × 2

In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish 'Cantine San Marzano'.

An intense and complex bouquet of ripe red fruits combined with hints of spice. A full-bodied wine with delicious flavours of Morello cherry, thyme and vanilla notes through to a smooth finish. Huge bang for buck!

2

Rioja Crianza Rivallana 2018 Ondarre, Rioja, Spain × 2

Bodegas Ondarre was founded in 1985, with the aim of creating wines which showcase the region’s distinct terroirs.

Spicy fruit aromas are complemented by subtle notes of vanilla from oak ageing. Savoury and ripe fruit flavours combine on the palate resulting in a traditional Rioja style.

2

Château de l'Herbe Sainte 'Tradition' 2018, Minervois, France × 2

The delightful Domaine de L’Herbe Sainte, in the Eastern Minervois, is just on the edge of the delightful small village of Mirepeisset.

Bright, deep red with a very typical nose of black fruit, black olive, cedar and garrigue. On the palate, a dense fruit led wine with well-integrated tannins and the same, delicious rich southern range of aromas.

CORKAGE CHRISTMAS FAVOURITES CASE

A bit more information on these wines which have become firm favourites on our wine list.

Les Vaublins, Crémant de Loire 2020

The Domaine du Haut Perron has been transferred from father to son for more than 4 generations. Each helped to expand it and improve the quality of its production. Cedric trained at the Lycée de Beaune, which helped him to modernise and develop the family property after he took over in 1999. Production is now sustainable and chemical fertilisers are avoided.

Manual harvesting of the grapes from the Cher Valley for this sparkling wine is in boxes, pressing is slow and only the free run juice (minus the final pressing, or rebêche) of the Chenin Blanc (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) is used. Fermentation takes place at low temperature and the wine is bottled for the second fermentation according to the traditional method. The wine is disgorged after 18 to 24 months after ageing in their troglodyte vaults (underground caves) which were dug out in the 18th Century.

Bright red apple and notes of lime, feature alongside secondary aromas of hay, shortcrust and a dusting of honeycomb. A welcome grassy backnote of celery and lime cordial balance with the rich flavours and textures, making for a complex fizz with a ripe strawberry finish.

Albariño Coral do Mar Rías Baixas 2021, Pazo do Mar

Coral do Mar Albarino is produced from a single vineyard site 150m above sea level on granite and sandy soils, which impart minerality and a fresher style to the wine. The vines are trained on a trellis which gives the grapes more aeration, leading to an optimum maturation of the berries and less acidity in the wine. Only 2% of Albariño is planted this way due to higher costs for cultivation and reduced yields.

Drink this alongside some fresh fish or simply enjoy as is.

Region: Rias Baixas

Grape: Albariño

Abv: 13%

Domaine Chêne Mâcon-Villages 2020

The Chêne family has been growing grapes in the heart of Mâcon for five generations. Owning vineyards in the top two locations in the Maconnais, La Roche Vineuse and St Veran, this excellent domaine has a lot to offer.

Chianti Classico DOCG Monte Bernardi ‘Retromarcia’ 2019

Retromarcia means “to back up” or “to reverse” and is Michael Schmelzer’s reference to an old approach to Chianti that is hard to find today, focused on allowing the character of Sangiovese to show above everything else. The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese composed of young vines planted on a mix of galestro and sandstone soils.

Retromarcia is gloriously youthful and pure exuding violets, dark cherry and mint blossom.

Country: Italy

Region: Chianti Classico

Grape: Sangiovese

Volume: 75cl

ABV: 13.5%

Vintage: 2019

Brothers Koerner Pinot Noir 2021

Food pairing: Roast duck with a splash of 5 spice and ginger, chinese spare ribs.

Castelnau de Suduiraut, Sauternes 2014 (37.5cl)

On 18 April 1855 the estate was classed as a Premier Cru during the official wine classification programme in the Gironde winegrowing area.

Semillon is a traditional variety of the region. When it is infected with noble rot it has an ample structure on the palate and gives the wine great mellowness and unctuosity. Wines produced with Semillon grapes are remarkably aromatic: they evoke honeyed fragrances, grilled dried fruits, acacia blossom and candied citrus.

The 2014 is restrained on the nose, but comes into its own after airing with woody, spicy notes enhancing candied fruit. Fresh and silky on the palate, with generous notes of melon, acacia honey and candied citrus through to a taut finish of brown sugar, candied orange and a hint of minerality.

Grapes: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc

Abv: 13.5%

Bottle: 375ml
