‘GMF’ Seyval Blanc, Blackbook Winery 2018

‘Blackbook was born of a love of three things: cool climate pinot noir and chardonnay; the English wine industry; and this fair city we call home, London.’

Blackbook is one of England’s most innovative wineries making wines that stand out for their creativity, and their GMF is no exception. This creamy, slightly wild ‘col fondo’ style Seyval Blanc comes from grapes grown in Oxfordshire but is made in this urban winery in Battersea underneath a railway bridge. The focus of Sergio and Lynsey, who own and run Blackbook, is to make minimal intervention wines with a natural approach.

This textured fizz is buzzing with elderflower, citrus and white pepper notes through to waxy lemon and mineral palate. Made without disgorgement resulting in a delicate cloudiness in the bottle.

This is ideal as an afternoon bubbly and versatile enough to make a good picnic bubbly for a wide range of dishes. Try it out with smoked trout pâté, salamis and sarnies

The 2018 vintage was the forever summer of Britain, adding to a long warm growing season with exceptional quality. Bottled under crown cap, we leave this opulent wine undisgorged, giving the benefit continued lees ageing in the bottle, adding to the texture and complexity. The wine spends a minimum of 6 months ageing on lees prior to bottling and secondary fermentation.

The grapes are whole bunch pressed into a mix of stainless steel tanks and old Burgundy barrels for fermentation.

The combination of tanks and barrels offers a depth and complexity that enhances aromas of elderflower, citrus, grapefruit, pineapple and white pepper.
