The Hay Shed Hill vineyard, established in the early 70’s, lies in the heart of the Margaret River Willyabrup Valley situated high on the gravel ridge. These handcrafted old-vine wines showcase the natural beauty of the vineyard. Winemaker Michael Kerrigan, with over thirty years of experience and twelve going solo at this location is one of the most revered and respected winemakers on the continent. Everything under the Hay Shed Hill label is single-vineyard, which Michael explains. “I make single vineyard and single block wines because they express a particular character – otherwise what’s the point?” All of the vines are dry farmed and made from free run juice only. The vineyards are around twenty years old and they are all farmed organically, but without certification. The Chardonnay sees 25% new oak and represents the `modern Australian Chardonnay`, in the words of its maker.
If you’re chasing a funkier, more savoury antipodean Chardonnay then Tony Bish’s Skin in the Game is exactly what you need.
