High quality wines have been produced on the Lyrarakis estate since 1966, focusing their efforts mainly on rare local varietals. The estate is located in the mountainous commune of Alagni, 440 metres above sea level, south of the city of Heraklion. The predominantly loam soils are peppered with sand or clay depending on precise location. In the fields surrounding the estate, well-preserved 14th century stone-presses hark of the region’s long history of viticulture.
Head winemaker Myriam Ambuzer has been a key player in ensuring a place for Lyrarakis among the top wineries of Greece. Her passion is firmly rooted in precision, purity and fruit quality, and all of their range is testament to this philosophy.
Kotsifali is very much a classic varietal in Crete, spicy and red fruit with a refreshing green herbal finish. Easy-going and simple but inarguably unique, this is certainly a wine with identity.
