Description

‘Lia’ Pet-Nat Rosado 2022, Nivarius, Rioja, Spain

Nivarius are, almost uniquely in Rioja, known for their still white wines but from the cool-climate, north facing single vineyard of Paraje de Aventines they grow Garnacha and from it make this incredibly tasty and very easy-drinking pink fizz. Pet-Nat, or Méthode Ancestrale, is one of the oldest forms of sparkling wine where fermentation is finished off in the bottle resulting in a crisp and dry sparkling wine.

The coolness of the vineyard means great natural acidity and a long ripening period after which the grapes are hand-picked and gently crushed with everything being done to preserve the delicate red fruit flavours. In the glass fresh and fragrant aromas of orchard and wild strawberry fruits with touches of floral blossom notes lead onto a clean and rounded palate with loads of ripe and juicy strawberry and red cherry flavours balanced by the crisp acidity.
