Radford Dale Frankenstein 2020

The inspiration for this wine came from a stubborn belief that Pinotage today has its place among more established varieties.

In 2016 this vineyard turned 27 years old and as such the crop is small, but wonderfully concentrated which allows for early picking, this Pinotage is a unique and deeply complex red wine that is made from hand-selected Pinotage grapes.  The wine has a deep, dark ruby colour and a rich, full-bodied flavour profile that is characterised by notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, and smoky oak.

Description

Radford Dale Frankenstein 2020

Radford Dale was founded in 1998. Alex Dale, a Brit, and Ben Radford, an Australian, are the joint partners of this brand. They set up this brand with the sole objective of making high-quality wines from the vineyards spread across the Western Cape. Alex and Radford have many years of wine experience between them, which reflects in the quality of wines that they craft under this label.

The inspiration for this wine came from a stubborn belief that Pinotage today has its place among more established varieties. It can produce wines of intrigue and complexity -without becoming harsh, chemical or showing any of the other cruel features that its detractors have reason to name. Treat it meanly and Pinotage will show its angry side. Through its clarity and purity of fruit, its lithe texture and its absence of any kind of aggression. It is not a monster; it is a soul with a heart and one which will repay kindness with abundant generosity of its own.

The old bush vines that make this individualistic Pinotage are rooted in unusual white clay at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain. Unirrigated, these vines plunge their roots deep into the earth in search of moisture to sustain the ripening of grapes into the long dry summers of the Cape. In 2016 this vineyard turned 27 years old and as such the crop is small, but wonderfully concentrated which allows for early picking.

Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage is a unique and deeply complex red wine that is made from hand-selected Pinotage grapes, which are grown in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The wine has a deep, dark ruby colour and a rich, full-bodied flavour profile that is characterised by notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, and smoky oak. This Pinotage is matured in a combination of new and older oak barrels for around 14 months, which gives it a subtle vanilla aroma and adds a layer of complexity to the already rich flavour profile. The wine has a lingering finish and can be enjoyed immediately or cellared for several years. Overall, Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage is a wine that is perfect for bold wine lovers who enjoy complexity and depth in their red wine choices.
