100% Viognier from the village of Chavanay, which is outside the Condrieu appellation but on the same granitic soil.  

This wonderful Viognier has an expressive nose with delicious aromas of apricot, citrus and violets. It is juicy and rounded on the palate and has a nice fresh finish.

A top star domaine. Yves Cuilleron took over the reins as the 4th generation vigneron in 1987. He is based in Chavanay, just south of Condrieu and has built up a formidable reputation in recent years. Always developing new ideas and cuvées, our tasting here each year is mightily impressive. We are lucky to have the allocation we do. Having started with Yves’ stunning Vin de Pays, we now have access to his amazing range of Grands Vins. He now owns and leases over 75 hectares. We think they are all great wines and they are all in the style of Yves Cuilleron – lingering, rich white wines and big rich minerally reds. Yves is a totally driven man with a growing family, a part share with other top growers in vineyards on the eastern side of the Rhône, and an excellent bistrot in Ampuis. He has a fantastic new cellar, purpose-built and temperature controlled. He now has more room to move.

The wine is generously aromatic. It has white-fleshed fruit such as peach, citrus fruits like grapefruit and blood orange, as well as apricot and white flowers. The tasty palate is balanced by wonderful freshness and ends with a spicy touch.

Producer Profile Domaine Yves Cuilleron

Yves is one of the region’s flagship producers. In the space of just a few years, and the fruit of hard work and passion, he has transformed his small family property into a highly prestigious estate, widely respected for its traditional methods, its single-parcel cuvées and their fine expression of terroir. Yves Cuilleron likes good food and fine wine, and makes no secret of this. Viticulture has been in his blood for three generations so it was only natural for him to take over the family vineyard in 1987. His grandfather, Claude Cuilleron planted the plot in 1920 and began bottling his own wine in 1947. Yves initially favoured a mechanised approach but his love of good wine led him back to a more traditional approach. He does not hold any certifications but his vineyards are tended meticulously with the goal of producing the best possible grapes. All the work is carried out by hand and chemical additives are prohibited. In the winery, vinification is traditional. Yves Cuilleron strives for overall harmony in his wines which are known for their elegant expression and finesse.
